Police Department Wins State Accreditation

The city police department has won state accreditation, which shows the officers follow best practices.

WOONSOCKET, RI—The City today announced the police department has met the standards set by the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission. On Wednesday, the Woonsocket Police Department will be formally recognized as an accredited member during a 3 p.m. ceremony in the briefing room at the Police Department Headquarters.

Woonsocket is only the 21st agency of the 47 eligible in the state to receive the professional policing standards accreditation.

The lengthy process requires departments to write up all their policies and procedures and undergo a review, including visits from the accrediting team. Accreditation insures the department is following best practices.
