PPSNE Celebrates Pride Month
PPSNE Offers Safe and Supportive Environments For LGBTQ Youth.
June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month and Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) is proud to reaffirm its commitment to the rights and health of LGBTQ people.
“Planned Parenthood of Southern New England believes that reproductive rights are deeply connected to civil rights for all Americans,” said Kafi Rouse Director of Public Relations & Marketing, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. “We continue to stand with members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities in the struggle for full equality — many of whom turn to Planned Parenthood for health care, information and education in Rhode Island.”
LGBTQ youth face discrimination, and are at increased risk for bullying, harassment, and physical assault — as well as for suicidal thoughts and behaviors, substance abuse and depression.
“LGBTQ young people need to feel loved, secure and valued — no matter what,” said Rouse. “At PPSNE, we offer programs for LGBTQ youth and allies, providing safe and supportive environments that allow youth to get the information and support they need to make healthy decisions and feel comfortable in their identities.”
To commemorate LGBT Pride Month, PPSNE will be participating in the 40th Annual RI PrideFest on June 20, 2015 located at 345 South Water Street, Providence, R.I. Attendees are welcome to visit our booth in order to receive free condoms, lubricant, educational and informational brochures, Planned Parenthood sunglasses and many more exciting items.
Planned Parenthood is a trusted, local resource for convenient and confidential services for women, men, transgender and young people, including hormone therapy, STD/STI testing, HIV testing and counseling and gynecological exams. PPSNE has a sliding fee scale based on one’s income and participates in many insurance plans. PPSNE is located at 111 Point Street, Providence, R.I. Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) is one of the region’s largest providers of family planning and reproductive health care services. Since 1923, PPSNE has evolved into an organization with 18 health centers in Connecticut and Rhode Island, delivering care to nearly 70,000 patients annually, and 90 percent of the services provided are preventive. In 2015, PPSNE recognizes the 50th Anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case, Griswold v. Connecticut, which ruled that the Connecticut law prohibiting the use of birth control violated the constitutional right to marital privacy. That decision paved the way for later decisions, including Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion in the United States.
