🌱 Small Business Saturday + Toy Collection + High House Prices

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Woonsocket.

Rise and shine, Woonsocket! It's Saturday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in town. I'm Kathleen, a Woonsocket resident here to keep you in the know!

First, today's weather:

Windy with clouds and sun. High: 40 Low: 24. Did anyone see the snow last night?

Here are the top stories today in Woonsocket:

  1. The Providence County housing market is still running hot and prices are still rising. Over the past year, house prices have increased 22.8%. However, homes sales are down. Why? Because there are not enough houses on the market. And the houses for sale are, on average, $350,000 which may be too high for some buyers. (The Providence Journal)
  2. Shop RI is the biggest Small Business Saturday yet! It will take up the entire first floor of the Crowne Plaza in Warwick with over 160 local vendors. Lockdowns, labor, and supply shortages have really damaged small businesses so this is an opportunity for better profits this year. Businesses can be so small that they didn't qualify for any of the COVID relief money. Layoffs have forced more people to be self-employed. People with disabilities are also finding success in self-employment and have increasingly joined Shop RI. (Warwick Post)
  3. The Woonsocket Police Department and the Knights of Columbus Council 113 are collecting new toy donations until Dec. 18 and you can drop them off at the Police Department anytime until then. On Saturday, Nov. 27, a collection event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at St. Joseph Church, 1200 Mendon Road. Santa will stop by for pictures from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Toys are for children 12 and younger. Thanks for following along and staying informed. See you on Monday morning for another update!

I'm Kathleen Stoddart, fellow Woonsocket resident. I had a houseful for Thanksgiving and yes, my husband made deep fried turkey. It was amazing! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and I'll see you at SHOP RI (I was at La Salette yesterday).
