High School Sports Roundup

Mount Hockey had an up and down weekend while the Woonsocket girls kept the ball rolling on the hard court.

MSC Boys Hockey fell to 6-5 on the season after a disappointing 6-1 loss at the hands of LaSalle on Saturday. The loss was a surprising letdown considering that the Mounties were able to knock off the undefeated Hendricken Hawks on Friday in convincing fashion, 4-1. MSC will have to put Saturday's loss behind them quickly as they will take on Moses Brown on Friday in a game in which the loser will drop to fourth place in the Cimini division, with both teams trailing Handricken and LaSalle in the standings with seven games to play.

Woonsocket Boys Hockey continues to struggle with their young squad. The Villa Novans are now 0-10 on the season and have been outscored 96-7 this season. Woonsocket will travel to Cranston East this Saturday, still searching for its first victory. But the Villa Novans best opportunity to secure their first win will probably come against Warwick Veterans on Feb. 18, a squad which they lost by one goal to earlier this season.

MSC Boys Basketball is now 1-10 on the season with their most recent loss coming to Prout on Friday by the score of 60-28. The Mounties have been outscored by an average of 16 points per game to this point in the season. The Mounties host a 5-5 East Greenwich team tonight with hopes of making some improvements.

Woonsocket Boys Basketball fell to 1-9 on the season with their loss to 10-1 St. Raphael last Tuesday. The Villa Novans face off against 5-6 Classical tonight, hoping to bounce back from their three-game losing streak.

MSC Girls Basketball is 3-7 on the season, but has played better lately, winning two of its last four. MSC lost by five in their last contest and it looks like their level of play has improved over the last few weeks. The Mounties will have a tough task in their next matchup against Classical, who is 7-2 on the season and currently sits in second place in the division. That game is on Wednesday in Providence.

Woonsocket Girls Basketball is flying high and is now on a five-game winning streak, improving their record to 8-4 on the season. The Villa Novans are now in third place in Division I and await their opportunity for redemption against Barrington on Thursday, a team that blew Woonsocket out earlier in the season.
