Woonsocket Sports Roundup

MSC Volleyball remains undefeated at 11-0 in Division I, only surrendering two games on the season, while Woonsocket football is still searching for its first in-league victory.

WHS Football: Woonsocket dropped their third and fourth games on consecutive Saturdays, losing 30-0 to St. Raphael on the road, and falling 13-6 at home in a closer contest. The loss of many of its seniors from last year's Superbowl winning team has taken its toll on the Villa Novans, and it looks as though this is a rebuilding year for Woonsocket, as they are now 0-4 and sit on the bottom of Division II-B.

WHS Boys Soccer was 1-3-1 in their past five games and are now 5-7-2 on the season. The Villa Novans sit in the middle of their division with two games to play and will welcome the Falcons of Cranston West to Barry Field on Thursday.

MSC Boys Soccer was 1-2-1 in the past two weeks. Their tie occurred last Monday when Woonsocket and faced off in an afternoon Columbus day match. The Mounties sit at 6-4-1 with five games remaining and have a favorable schedule which could put them in solid shape for a playoff berth.

WHS Girls Soccer: After four consecutive losses, including a blowout defeat at the hands of Westerly, the Villa Novans snapped their losing streak with 1-0 victory over East Providence last Thursday. It was the Villa Novans' first win of the season, as they are now 1-14 after another tough defeat against Exeter/West Greenwich on Monday.

MSC Girls Soccer is on a four game winning streak and is second in Division II North, sporting a 10-1 record. The Mounties defeated Tolman 2-0 on Monday and will look to continue their winning streak on their way to the playoffs, when they travel to Lincoln to face a formidable 13-1 Lions squad.

Girls Tennis: Woonsocket has played 6 matches in the past two weeks and finished at 2-4 in those matches. The girls are happy to be back on the court after a tragic loss of a brother of one of the players. The Villa Novans will finish their season Thursday against Scituate.

MSC Girls Tennis is 10-2 on the season, having only lost to division leader Lincoln School. The Mounties will face off against Moses brown to finish the regular season Thursday and will look to make some noise in the Division I playoffs.

WHS Girls Volleyball split their last two games and are now 2-10 on the season. They've beaten last place team Shea twice and will try to pick up their third win on Thursday against Central Falls

MSC Girls Volleyball continues to shred through Division I girls volleyball, as the Mounties are now 11-0 on the season. The Mounties went 5-0 in league play for the last three weeks and won the Koch Eye Tournament on Columbus Day. The Mounties have only dropped two games this season and look to be unstoppable as the season starts to draw to a close. MSC was also invited to CCRI for the Tri-state Volleyball Tournament this past Saturday, which features some of the best teams from Rhode Island, nearby Massachusetts, and Connecticut, in an exhibition format. The Mounties will face off against Ponaganset on Thursday, a team that took a game from the Mounties while their star setter was hampered with an injury, providing one last litmus test for the Mounties before the playoffs begin.
