The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza
The Beacon Charter High School Department of Theatre gives us a first look at The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza to be presented at the 83rd annual Rhode Island Drama Festival.
The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza opened with the first of three performances on March 16 at the Stadium Theatre. Performed by the Department of Theatre, the show is a short comedy written by play-write and screenwriter, Don Zolidis.
According to Director Dawn Souza and Technical Director Jason LeClair, this is the first time in Beacon history where the entire set, music, costumes, lighting and props have all been designed exclusively by the young artists themselves. This production has a record breaking cast of 26 actors and 15 technical support members.
"The most rewarding aspect [of the show] is the fact that everything is student designed: the set, lighting, costumes, colors, music, props everything," said musical composer and cast member Emily Drainville.

The Stadium Theatre will host a second performance on March 17 at 7 p.m. Following, on March 19, Beacon Charter High School will present a final performance at the 83rd annual Rhode Island Drama Festival, hosted by Mt. Hope High School in Bristol, RI.
One of the challenges of a festival presentation is the need to assemble the entire set, present your company's performance, then break down the set in no more than one hour. This performance will be Beacon's 4th Drama Festival entry.

Drainville explained her role in the performance. "Being the musical composer of the play, it's my job to take the energy I see and feel from the actors and take it, twist it, and throw it back out for everyone to hear," she said.
"The amount of hard work, dedication, and passion every student puts into this show is unbelievable. It truly is a piece of Beacon Art," Drainville added.
One member of the audience, theatre goer, Lisa Greenless of Woonsocket said of the show, "Attending this performance has really enlightened me to the talent that lies within the students at Beacon and I am quite eager to attend future performances."
