A look at police activity around the city from May 30 through June 1.

Man hits telephone pole, runs off injured

Joseph Brown, 25, was arrested this week after police were called to an accident on the intersection of Harris Avenue and Winter Street in which a vehicle had struck a telephone pole. Brown allegedly ran off after hitting the pole and was caught and arrested by Off. Lajoie. According to reports, Brown had difficulty keeping his eyes open during questioning and told officers he had taken an Ativan, Klonopin and Dilaudid at the same time then borrowed his friend's car to visit his girlfriend in Blackstone. Brown said he fell asleep at the wheel and woke up only after he hit the pole, then ran because he did not have a license.

An investigation of the surrounding area and the damage to Brown's vehicle reportedly revealed that he hit a parked car and two street signs before proceeding into the pole. He was treated at Landmark Medical Center and received staples in his forehead and a brace for his leg.

Bedroom is messy AND full of marijuana plants

Robert James Willey, 37, of 74 Prospect St. was arrested at home on Monday after police received a call reporting glass bottles being thrown from a roof. A concerned neighbor asked officers to speak with the tenant in the third floor apartment. Willey answered the door and told officers someone had thrown a rock through his attic window and broken it, and denied throwing bottles. Police asked to see the window and Willey allegedly replied that he would rather not show them because the area was messy. Willey eventually relented and while investigating, officers noticed a small marijuana grow operation with several young plants.

Willey reportedly told officers that the plants were his and that he had a prescription for medical marijuana. Police asked to see documentation and Willey produced a card from Colorado, saying that he had recently moved and was awaiting his Rhode Island card, which was in the mail. Police arrested Willey and obtained a search warrant for the residence. Officers reportedly found a bag on top of a clothing pile containing $900 worth of marijuana. They also confiscated a grinder, a scale and $1,512 in cash. Willey was charged with felony manufacture/delivery/possession of marijuana.
