Woonsocket Police Recover Stolen AK-47

David Hernandez, 22, of Woonsocket was charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Larceny of a Firearm and being a Fugitive from Justice.

WOONSOCKET, RI—Police officers have recovered an AK-47 which was stolen from a bathroom closet at the Stop and Go Deli, 66 Cass Ave. The owner of the business reported the theft to police on Thursday.

After an investigation was launched, police later Thursday evening located a vehicle associated with the theft. The vehicle was on Gaulin Avenue. Surveillance was set up, police said. Three men entered the vehicle, and police stopped the car and took all three to the police station for questioning.

Ultimately, David Hernandez, 22, of Woonsocket was charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Larceny of a Firearm and being a Fugitive from Justice out of Florida. Hernandez told officers that the weapon was hidden in an apartment on Gaulin Avenue. Police found it there and also found a magazine with three rounds.
