Woonsocket Woman Killed When Hit By A Car In North Smithfield

WOONSOCKET, RI — A Woonsocket woman was killed Wednesday when she was struck by a car on Greenville Road Wednesday night. The victim was identified as Candice Destefani, 34.

Police said Destefani was hit when she stepped into road around 6 p.m. She was taken to Landmark Medical Center, then transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where she died.

WPRI-TV reported that Destefani had a 3-year-old son and that the boy's father — Darren Harris — died in a motorcycle crash in Woonsocket in June. Police said the investigation is ongoing but that no charges have been filed against the driver in Wednesday's accident as of yet.
