Sheriff's office wants to speak with man about Coligny shooting (islandpacket.com) — Beaufort County deputies are asking residents to help identify a man seen in surveillance footage from the July 4 Coligny Beach shooting. Investigators released photos and video and say the man, wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts, may have information. Anyone who recognizes him can contact the sheriff’s office or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers of Beaufort County. 
2. Beaufort County sidewalk plan draws concerns from Riley Road residents (wjcl.com) — Beaufort County is weighing a new sidewalk and drainage project near Broad River Elementary, but Riley Road residents say extending the path past their homes would take too much property and offer little benefit. Officials are still collecting public comments through Sept. 2 before moving into right-of-way acquisition and construction, now targeted to begin in 2027.
3. Beaufort man pleads guilty in predatory, three-state sex trafficking case, feds say (islandpacket.com) — A Beaufort man has pleaded guilty in a federal sex trafficking conspiracy that stretched across Massachusetts, South Carolina and Rhode Island and involved severe coercion of an adult victim. Prosecutors say he continued coordinating the scheme from jail, while several co-defendants from Beaufort County and elsewhere have already been convicted and sentenced, with his sentencing set for December.
4. 'P' is for Port Royal Experiment (southcarolinapublicradio.org) — Beaufort-area readers are reminded how the Civil War–era Port Royal Experiment on the Sea Islands grew directly from the Union Navy’s capture of the Beaufort District in 1861. The piece explains how abandoned enslaved people were labeled “contraband of war” and placed under federal oversight, laying groundwork for early efforts at education, employment, and eventual emancipation in coastal South Carolina.
5. Jasper County murder trial underway for 1 of 3 men accused of killing twin brothers in 2023 (wtoc.com) — A Jasper County jury is hearing testimony in the murder trial of one of three men charged in a 2023 shooting at Okatie’s Riverwalk Business Park that killed twin brothers and injured two others. Another defendant is from Beaufort County, and two of the accused remain jailed awaiting their own trials as state investigators present surveillance-based evidence.
