• A $1.2B magnet factory and nearly 500 jobs are coming to the Upstate (postandcourier.com) — A massive $1.2 billion USA Rare Earth plant is coming to Bailey Park in Blacksburg, projected to bring about 490 advanced manufacturing jobs when it opens in April 2028. Local leaders say the facility will boost Cherokee County’s economy while helping reduce U.S. dependence on China for critical rare earth minerals. 
• Former South Carolina deputy coroner, fire chief granted bond after arrest (counton2.com) — A former Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department chief connected to the Blacksburg-area district has been granted bond while facing serious financial and voyeurism charges tied to his work there. Investigators say a state probe into Buffalo Fire District finances led to his suspension and later firing as Cherokee County deputy coroner, and the case is now in the hands of the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
