Here are the top three stories today in Charleston:

  1. Charleston Waterkeepers reports that high levels of Enterococcus bacteria have been recorded at six sites in Charleston. Hendricks Park, Brittlebank Park, upper Shem Creek, upper Hobcaw Creek, and both portions of Ellis Creek are the affected areas. Residents should not swim in the affected areas.   2. Charleston County is warning residents about a phone scam. According to the county government, the scammers are impersonating judges and court staff. The scam focuses on collecting payment for bogus court fees and fines. Residents are reminded that Charleston County Magistrate staff will not request payment over the phone. (Holy City Sinner)
  3. An adoption event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20 to find homes for the 18 beagles that were transferred to the Pet Helpers Adoption Center. The event will be held between 10:00 a.m. and noon at the center on Folly Road on James Island. There is a $350 adoption fee for each beagle puppy. The puppies are microchipped, neutered, and have received all vaccinations. (Holy City Sinner)
