The protected gravesite has sparked a formal proposal to exhume, study, and respectfully reinter the remains on the property, adding a new chapter to Charleston's long history of unexpected burials beneath modern development.
   

2. Charleston County plans public safety complex on Johns Island (live5news.com) — Charleston County is planning a new public safety complex on Johns Island that would house EMS, a law enforcement substation, and a satellite dispatch center to cut emergency response times in the fast-growing southern part of the county. Funded by $14 million in bonds, the project's land is being donated by Kiawah River developers and could be complete by 2032.

Charleston K-9 unit impresses ROMEOs in morning demo (thedanielislandnews.com) — Charleston's K-9 officers and their dogs gave Daniel Island's ROMEOs group an up-close look at how the city's police canines are trained to detect threats and safely restrain suspects. Handlers explained their intensive training, strict working-dog routines, and how these highly trained partners eventually retire into family pets.

'The sooner the better': CCSD urges families to get kids back in school (abcnews4.com) — Charleston County School District is urging families who haven't enrolled their children yet—especially in several North Charleston schools—to get them into classrooms immediately to avoid falling behind. Superintendent Anita Huggins also reassures parents about school safety, highlights multilingual support, and says bus air-conditioning repairs are being fast-tracked with state help.
   

5. The Princeton Review Features College of Charleston (charleston.edu) — Charleston residents can take pride that the College of Charleston has been named one of The Princeton Review's "Best 392 Colleges" for 2027, highlighting its strong academics and student support. The guide praises the historic downtown Charleston setting, small class sizes, engaged faculty, and hands-on opportunities that help students connect their education to real-world careers.
