Here are the top three stories today in Charleston:

  1. $8.4 million has been awarded to a consortium to expand the diversity of the Charleston area health care workforce. The funds are part of the federal American Rescue Plan Act. The consortium's efforts are being led by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and its Lowcountry Careers Collaborative. (Charleston Post Courier)
  2. The North Charleston Police Department has arrested 2 suspects in a deadly shooting investigation. The incident occurred on Jun. 22 in the area of McKnight Drive and resulted in one man being pronounced dead at the scene. Antonio Deshawn Odom and Trey-Von Marguql Antonine Drayton-Fabor have been charged with murder, attempted murder, and the possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime. They are being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  3. The Charleston County 911 call center in North Charleston is facing a critical staffing shortage. The center needs to fill 47 vacancies to become fully staffed. The center's current employees have been covering the staffing shortage by working expanded shifts. The next interview event for the positions will be on Aug. 10 at the Public Services building on Bridge View Drive between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (ABC NEWS 4)
