The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Charleston.

(Patch Media)

Hi there, Charleston. I'm here in your inbox this morning to get you caught up on everything you need to know about what's going on around town.

First, today's weather:

Humid with a stray t-storm. High: 87 Low: 76.

Here are the top three stories today in Charleston:

  1. Charleston-area home sales declined in June. Last month was the 10th straight month of declining home sales due to soaring inflation coupled with rising interest rates. Residential transactions fell by almost 19 percent in June, according to the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors. (Charleston Post Courier)
  2. The City of Charleston is reportedly optimistic about major flood conditions in the next five years. The city is at an increased risk of substantial flooding due to its low elevation and worsening climate change. The city has spent more than $50 million per year on drainage project improvements to fight the flooding. While the city waits for the projects to be completed, it has been working on fast maintenance projects that will immediately impact neighborhoods' flood response. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  3. Dockworkers union at the Port of Charleston is asking President Biden to stay out of a labor dispute. The dispute has reportedly hindered work at the Leatherman Terminal. The union claims that Biden's interference would be an overreach of presidential power. The Federal Maritime Commission asked for the president's help last month. (Charleston Post Courier)
