Here are the top three stories today in Charleston:

  1. Charleston's Stephanie Brinkley has been appointed the chair of the American Bar Association's Assisted Reproduction Technology Committee. Brinkley is an attorney that practices fertility, family, and military family law. The committee's purpose is to provide resources regarding legal/ethical consequences of technological advances in assisted production and genetics. (CRBJ Biz Wire)
  2. The North Charleston Police Department has arrested a suspect that allegedly shot a woman in her apartment on Thursday night. Javerick Self, 25, was arrested on Friday on murder and possession of firearm charges. The incident is being invested by the department's detectives and the Charleston County Coroner's Office. (ABC NEWS 4)
  3. Charleston area clinics will have the chance to distribute monkeypox vaccines to patients next week. Ryan White Wellness Center and Truesdale Medical Center will begin distributing the vaccine to patients that have been requesting it. Previously, only DHEC clinics in South Carolina have been distributing the vaccine. Providers are concerned that monkeypox already has a stigma around it like in the early days of the AIDS pandemic.
