Midwest “tavern style” Pizza is starting to trend.

As a kid growing up in the Midwest our pizza was cut into squares and had a thin crust with a crunchy edge. These were usually served in bars as appetizers to get people to drink more.

Having the memory of this tangy sauce and a quick bite option was still embedded in me.

When we opened our Hollywood South Carolina pizzeria in 2020 we added our Midwest pizza along with our Brooklyn New York style pizza for our Charleston County foodies. The Midwest pizza has been a hit. Especially our “Murray”. Yep meatballs. You’ll get the connection. I came across an article this week in Esquire magazine that shows how Midwest pizzas are trending.
