1. CCPL to open temporary library location in Downtown Charleston on Oct. 5 (holycitysinner.com) — Downtown Charleston readers will soon have a new temporary library option when CCPL opens Main at Morrison on Oct. 5 at 1142 Morrison Drive. The 6,300-square-foot space will offer core services like browsing, computers, holds pickup, and limited programs while the Main Library undergoes an 18‑month renovation, with separate temporary arrangements for the South Carolina Room on Camp Road.
   

2. Coastal Flooding Warning for Charleston (news-usa.today) — Charleston residents are being warned about coastal flooding this weekend as unusually high tides threaten low-lying streets near the harbor and neighborhoods along the Cooper and Ashley Rivers. Officials and experts describe likely street flooding, risks to older homes and businesses, and broader concerns about climate-driven sea level rise, while urging people to avoid flooded areas and follow National Weather Service updates.
   

3. Long Savanna community moves forward as Charleston leaders try to ease West Ashley growing pains (live5news.com) — Plans for the massive Long Savanna community in West Ashley are moving ahead, with Charleston officials working to cut units, add an on-site elementary school, and improve traffic and stormwater systems. City leaders and residents debate whether these changes can keep pace with thousands of new homes, as Charleston pursues grants and a transportation sales tax to tackle congestion hot spots like Magwood and Glenn McConnell.
   

4. Black resistance is keynote of coming conference (charlestoncitypaper.com) — A major history conference on Black resistance is underway in North Charleston, with events stretching through Saturday at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Charleston Airport and near the International African American Museum. Local historian Joseph McGill Jr. and Charleston City Paper editor Herb Frazier will preview their new Revolutionary War book, while scholars and performers explore 250 years of African American resilience in South Carolina.
   

5. CCSD's first-ever 'Battle of the Ballroom' raises over $175k for CCSD's Academic Fund Project (counton2.com) — Charleston County School District's first-ever Battle of the Ballroom packed Charleston Music Hall and raised $175,000 for local academic initiatives, including universal pre-K and teacher training. With mayors, police chiefs, and community leaders trading suits for sequins, the event crowned Northwoods Middle School Principal Bentli Lewis and partner Peter Snow as champions and may become a new Lowcountry fundraising tradition.

  • Does anybody have recommendations for someone to do some brickwork?
    We had to cut a decent sized hole in the back of our house to access a plumbing issue on our slabbed house (Nextdoor Harbor View)
  • I live at the end of Shortwood Street in Marsh Point sub and there was the mama and the daddy coyote with their four babies barking and carrying on in the woods right behind my property that butts up to Joe Rivers road.
    This was about 6:00 a.m. this morning because my poodle was barking and going crazy. Just wanted to let my neighbors know so they'll keep an eye out… (Nextdoor Fort Johnson Rd)
