Holy City Bridge Angels aims to prevent suicides, ensure no one feels alone (abcnews4.com) — A new volunteer group, Holy City Bridge Angels, is organizing in Charleston to spot and support people in suicidal crisis on local bridges before tragedy occurs. Residents can join virtual trainings on September 10 or 13 to learn how to recognize warning signs, safely approach someone, and connect them with resources like 988, complementing recent prevention signage in North Charleston.
   

2. CCSD awarded $300,000 grant to support instructional leadership development (counton2.com) — Charleston County School District has secured a $300,000 state grant to strengthen instructional leadership, which could shape teaching quality and student outcomes across local schools. The funding will support professional learning, coaching, and a new leadership pipeline, including partnerships with the University of Virginia, giving Charleston County educators more chances to grow into stronger classroom and school leaders.
   

3. Charleston County considers $11M bond for James Island upgrades (live5news.com) — Charleston County leaders are weighing an $11 million bond to rebuild James Island's aging Fire Station Four, create a vegetative-debris storage yard off Folly Road, and add a wellness-focused patio at Fire Station One. Officials say the projects will strengthen hurricane readiness, speed post-storm cleanups, and support firefighter health without raising current taxes, though construction could take several years.
   

4. Charleston Museum announces exhibit to showcase findings from the H.L. Hunley Submarine (counton2.com) — Charleston residents will soon be able to explore "Textiles from the Deep," a new Charleston Museum exhibit opening October 3 that highlights conserved clothing and artifacts from the H.L. Hunley submarine. Featuring fragile textiles, personal items, and detailed conservation work done in North Charleston, the display connects visitors to the crew's lives and the region's maritime history through April 4, 2027.
   

5. Charleston County wants to know where your short-term rental guests are sleeping (live5news.com) — Charleston County is weighing new rules that would make short-term rental owners list every space used for sleeping and prove they have enough off-street parking for those guests. The proposal mainly targets new permits in unincorporated areas and could take effect within weeks, so hosts may soon need to update how they advertise and apply for STRs.
