SC Ports and Army Corps sign feasibility study for upper harbor deepening project (abcnews4.com) — Plans are moving forward to study deepening the upper Charleston Harbor between the Leatherman and North Charleston terminals, which could let all local container terminals handle the largest ships at any tide. The Army Corps and SC Ports have signed a feasibility study agreement, launching environmental and economic reviews that could further boost Charleston's role as a major East Coast port and job engine.
   

2. SLED reviewing CCSD Inspector General findings; FBI confirms communication with OIG (abcnews4.com) — State and federal investigators are reviewing an Inspector General report on the Charleston County School Board that could lead Gov. Henry McMaster to consider removing a trustee. The report details alleged misconduct tied to confidential information, billing, and residency questions, while a Charleston attorney is urging investigators to also weigh a residents' petition over board transparency and FOIA concerns.
   

3. Exploring Gullah Geechee Foodways, Historic Archives (savannahherald.com) — Charleston County School of the Arts seniors recently spent a day at the College of Charleston's Avery Research Center exploring Gullah Geechee foodways and African American history through archives and a zine-making workshop. Local chef Reggie, Black Food Fridays founder KJ Kearney, and College of Charleston educators helped students connect Lowcountry food traditions with cultural memory and future teaching careers.
   

4. Charleston, West Ashley scheduled for aerial mosquito spraying Sunday morning (live5news.com) — Aerial mosquito spraying is scheduled over the City of Charleston and West Ashley Sunday morning from 6:15 to 8:15 a.m., with a backup date of Sept. 6 if needed. The move follows West Nile virus detections in Charleston County, prompting expanded truck and aerial treatments and a reminder for residents to plan around the spraying window.
   

5. 6th Annual Drifter Fest Returns to Charleston Sept. 11-12 (luckydognews.com) — Charleston music fans can look forward to Drifter Fest's return Sept. 11–12, with a free kickoff show at Home Team BBQ and a main event at The Refinery. The weekend honors the late Bert Griggs, features bands like The Psycodelics and Dangermuffin, and supports local nonprofit Rock 'n Roll Rescue's music education work for Lowcountry kids.
