Update: Abandoned Baby in Good Health
The baby was found at an apartment complex early Monday.
A woman gave birth to a baby boy in the laundry room of an apartment complex and left him in a stairwell early Monday, according to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott.
Deputies received a call from a concerned citizen about the abandoned baby at The Enclave apartment complex off Broad River Road, according to the sheriff's department.
The baby boy was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital just after 6 a.m.

"He is in good shape, and the hospital tells us everything is okay," Lott said.
The baby still had the umbilical cord attached when deputies found him wrapped in a blanket in a stairwell, Lott said.

Investigators will use DNA evidence from the laundry room to track down the mother, Lott said. They'll also talk to neighbors.
The sheriff's department is asking for the public's help in identifying the baby's mother. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
The mother won't necessarily be charged, Lott said. Investigators want to make sure she is safe and talk to her about the conditions of the birth, he said.
Lott reminds parents who are facing hardship of the "Infant Safe Haven" law. The law allows parents to leave their child of 30 days or younger in a safe haven without facing criminal charges.
