• Columbia, Burke County students return to the classroom (wrdw.com) — Columbia County students are back in class, and Evans families will notice big changes at Evans High School, including a new gym, classrooms, and performing arts center amid ongoing construction. The county is rolling out new communication tools and reminders on health forms and bus routes, while Burke County launches its own tech upgrades and hiring incentives.
   

• New traffic light activated at Furys Ferry Road and Blackstone Camp Road (wrdw.com) — Drivers in Evans now have a new traffic light at Furys Ferry Road and Blackstone Camp Road, replacing the old four-way stop to improve safety and access. It’s part of a larger project widening Furys Ferry from Evans to Lock Road to four lanes, which officials hope to finish by year’s end.
   

• Full offseason driving Evans football ahead of year two under Lee Hutto (wrdw.com) — Evans High School’s Knights football team is gearing up for a fresh start at home on Aug. 21 after last season’s 3-7 record. With a full offseason under second-year coach Lee Hutto, returning standouts, and upgraded facilities, players and coaches say they’re ready to showcase a new culture under the lights.
