West Columbia considers changes to short-term rental rules (wltx.com subscription) — West Columbia officials are weighing stricter rules for short-term rentals, including new permits, occupancy and parking standards, and a requirement for a local contact to handle problems. With Columbia also tightening oversight, property owners and neighbors across the metro area could see clearer expectations aimed at protecting residential streets while keeping rental options available.
2. RSWCD Seed Sanctuary is giving seeds away (thecolumbiastar.com) — Richland County's Seed Sanctuary is back for the cool season, offering residents up to four free packets of vegetable, herb, or wildflower seeds at the county administration building on Hampton Street in Columbia and other locations. Volunteers and partners like the Master Gardeners at Soda City Market help pack and distribute thousands of seed packets, and you can also join a waitlist to receive seeds by mail.
3. Former Columbia code enforcement employee arested, accused of assault (abccolumbia.com) — A former City of Columbia code enforcement employee was arrested in Richland County after an alleged altercation with a family member that involved an assault and a gun, according to Columbia Police.
