Baby Giraffe on Exhibit at Riverbanks Zoo
The four-week-old calf was born on July 11.

There's a new addition to the Riverbanks Zoo family.
Giraffe parents Charlie and Ginger gave birth to their second calf on July 11, according to a news release from the zoo.
The now four-week-old boy giraffe weighed 105 pounds and was five feet tall when he was born.

“We are very excited about this latest addition to our giraffe herd,” said John Davis, curator of mammals. “The calf is doing very well and growing at a steady pace, but he won’t be full grown until about 5 years old.”
Adult giraffes can reach heights of up to 18 feet tall, and can weigh as much as 2,600 pounds.

Guests can see the calf on exhibit daily from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the zoo’s African Savanna exhibit.
Five giraffes have been born at the zoo since February 2009. The last one was born on Labor Day 2010.
