BSE: Just Do It!
No doubt you know October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

And perhaps you even participated in Palmetto Health Foundation’s recent record-breaking Walk for Life/Race for Life event.
But one of the simplest ways to participate in the movement is to conduct your own Breast Self-Exam (BSE).
While it is not a screening tool for breast cancer, it is important to become familiar with the way your breasts normally look and feel. Knowing what is normal for you may help you see or feel certain changes.

Because early detection is a woman's best defense against breast cancer, the Palmetto Health Breast Center devotes many resources to educating women about the disease. Through educational initiatives and community events, they are spreading the word about the importance of breast self-exams, mammograms and research.
Palmetto Health provides tools online to walk you through the Breast Self-Exam process.

What if you notice a change during your breast self-exam or feel a lump? Contact your doctor to notify them of the change. You can be referred to the Palmetto Health Breast Cancer Center if further diagnostic evaluation required.
Remember: Do the BSE now and make a monthly breast self-exam part of your normal healthy lifestyle.
