Bus System Considers Cutting Service, Routes
Funding from Richland County and the City of Columbia wasn't enough to end the bus system's deficit.

With a $1.1 million deficit, the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority is still considering cutting bus service and routes.
At a budget committee meeting Wednesday, members of the board proposed several measures to create a balanced budget, according to a report in The State.
Those recommendations included cutting bus service on Sundays and some holidays, reducing service on Saturdays, reducing evening service on Monday through Friday and eliminating some routes, according to The State.

In February, toward the CMRTA deficit, but those funds weren't enough to stop the cuts.
CMRTA's executive director Bob Schneider told The State that the reductions in service and routes are necessary for a balanced budget.

“It’s our job to live within our means, so that’s what we’re doing,” he said.
