To celebrate the summer solstice Wednesday — the day that the sun reaches its northernmost point in the sky — some businesses are offering special deals or holding events.

Two restaurants are offering a cheap way to cool off from the heat, and you might need to: Wednesday is also the longest day of sunlight during the year.

Sonic is offering half-priced milkshakes all day. Pick yours up from the Sonic on in St. Andrews, or  or on  in Lexington.

If you're looking to relax, you can make the trip over to Yoga Masala on Bluff Road in Columbia for a special class featuring 108 sun salutations in honor of the summer solstice. 

Yoga enthusiasts in New York City will also celebrate the longest day of the year with an all-day yoga fest in Times Square. Across the country, the day is marked by festivals welcoming the summer season.

The summer solstice will take place at exactly 7:09 p.m. Wednesday.
