Columbia High Senior Wins National Scholarship
Blake Thrower won a scholarship based on academic merit.

Columbia High senior Blake Thrower is one of two Richland One students who won a competitive scholarship from the National Achievement Scholarship Program.Â
Thrower, who is interested in computer engineering, won a $6,000 National Achievement Boule Foundation Scholarship. The Boule Foundation is one of the 29 corporate and professional associations that finances the scholarships.
This program recognizes academically promising African-American students throughout the nation.Â

Winners must have a record of high academic performance in high school, be endorsed and recommended by their school principals, earn high SAT scores and be actively involved in their schools and communities.Â
Another Richland One senior, David Brice of Dreher High School, won a $2,500 scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

About 800 seniors across the nation won scholarships through the program.Â
