Congaree National Park: Dogs, Fishing in Weston Lake Allowed
Both park regulations are effective immediately and will run on a trial basis through October 1.

Congaree National Park recently announced interim changes to two park regulations officials say is an effort to improve visitors experience at the park.Â
Leashed pets are now allowed on all park trails, including the park's 2.4 mile boardwalk, Superintendent Tracy Stakely said.Â
Pets must be leashed, attended to at all times on the trails and pet waste must be disposed of properly.

This interim regulation will not affect the current restriction on pets inside federal buildings or any other regulations that apply to pets unleashed or running at large, according to park officials.
Another change to park regulations applies to Weston Lake. Those interested in fishing at the lake are now permitted to do so.

Fishermen must obtain a fishing license as required by state law. Fishing will remain restricted along the shoreline within 100 feet of the Weston Lake Overlook and from any part of the boardwalk or Overlook.Â
Visitors fishing in the park are asked to carry out their trash to be disposed of properly.Â
Both regulations are effective immediately and will run on a trial basis through October 1.Â
If the new regulations are successful, officials say, the changes will be made permanent at the end of the trial period.
