County Council Elects 2012 Leadership

Richland County Council elected a new chair and vice chair for the year.

Richland County Council voted Tuesday to elect two of its members as the chair and vice chair for the 2012 session. 

Kelvin Washington will serve as council chair and Gregory Pearce will serve as vice chair. 

Washington, who represents council district 10, was elected to office in November 2008. He holds a bachelor's in electrical engineering from South Carolina State University and works for the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

Pearce, who represents council district 6, has served on council since January 1999 and previously served as vice chair in early 2000.

Washington praised outgoing Chair Paul Livingston of council district 4 and Vice Chair Damon Jeter of council district 3 for their service to the council and the community.
