Update: Deputies Arrest 4 During Drug Bust

Update, 3:26 p.m. April 20: Deputies arrested four men during a drug bust Thursday at Austin Woods Apartments on Garner's Ferry Road. 

After witnessing several people dealing drugs, deputies with the Drug Suppression Team tried to arrest 27-year-old Joshua Ramon Rose.

In an attempt to escape, Rose drove toward Deputy Adrian Thompson and struck him with his vehicle, according to the sheriff's department. 

Deputies fired shots at Rose as he drove away. He was later arrested on Patterson Road. He had multiple gunshot wounds. 

Rose is charged with attempted murder and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. He suffered non-life threatening injuries, and will be transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center when possible, according to the sheriff's department. 

Thompson also suffered non-life threatening injuries and is recovering at home, according to the sheriff's department. 

Three other men were arrested during the operation: 

• Brandon Huguenin, 25, was charged with drinking alcohol in public and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.
• Dexter Loadholt, 29, was charged with drinking alcohol in public, unlawful carrying of a pistol and  possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. 
• Harvey Zimmerman, 28, was charged with drinking alcohol in publica and possession with intent to distribute. 

Original story, 9:30 a.m. April 20: Richland County Sheriff's deputies shot a suspect after he hit a deputy with his vehicle while trying to escape arrest during a drug bust Thursday evening on Garner's Ferry Road.

Deputies with the Drug Suppression Team were investigating drug activity at the Austin Woods Apartments around 8:45 p.m. when the suspect tried to flee and hit Deputy Adrian Thompson with his vehicle, according to WIS. 

Deputies shot the suspect when he attempted to drive off with Thompson on the hood, according to The State.

Another officer pulled over the suspect on Patterson Road, according to the report. He had two gunshot wounds. 

The suspect and the deputy are recovering from their injuries, said Curtis Wilson, spokesperson for the sheriff's department. 

Deputies arrested four people during the operation, Wilson said.

Deputies also confiscated crack cocaine and a 9 millimeter pistol at the scene, Sheriff Leon Lott told The State.
