Election Commission: Richland County Miscounted Votes in 2010 Election

An audit by the State Election Commission shows that more than 1,000 votes weren't counted in Richland County in the 2010 election.

Richland County accidentally did not count 1,127 ballots in the November 2010 elections, according to a report in The State. The error was revealed in an audit conducted by the State Election Commission.

The eight-month auditing process determined that “human error” was the culprit in mistakes made in “a number of counties” across South Carolina, said Chris Whitmire, assistant director of the S.C. Election Commission.

The discrepancies would not have changed the outcome of any race or issue, Whitmire said.
