The South Carolina National Safety Council (SCNSC) has long been known as the go-to place for safety training needs. Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA), Emergency Care, First Aid, CPR, Defensive Driving and last but not least, Alive at 25. Alive at 25 has worked with young drivers in South Carolina for 7 years, in hundreds of high schools, reaching tens of thousands of teen drivers. With
all that being said, the SCNSC Driving Academy is a natural fit for expanding the training services that the Council offers.
The Driving Academy will be taught by certified and retired South Carolina Police Officers. These officer instructors have been working for the Safety Council for many years and have proven to be reliable and are all committed to excellence. Teaching your teen to drive is a partnership, between you, your driving school of choice, and the teenager. All three must work together to impart the lifesaving message of safe teen driving to our newest drivers.
A beginner driver with a learners permit is only required to hold that permit 180 days before they can try for their driver’s license. This is the minimum standard set by state law. You as a parent (what we call parents law) can extend
that time as much as is needed to ensure your new driver is ready for the road. In those first 180 days, a lifetime of driving habits and behaviors can be learned. Let us help you with those days. Our law enforcement instructors know how to teach, lead by example and each has the desired goal to help your new driver be as prepared as possible. In the classroom and behind the wheel your
student will learn: Safe Driving, Defensive Driving, Traffic Movement, Hazard Identification, Sharing the Road, Residential, City, Business, and Interstate Driving, Emergency Situations, Hazardous Weather Driving Safety, Risk Identification, Impaired Driving Dangers / Facts, Parallel Parking, Overnight Parking, Three Point Turning, and Backing in Roadway.
