Father Whose Baby Died in Hot Car Won't Be Charged

Investigators found insufficient evidence to charge the father with a criminal act, according to the solicitor's office.

The father of a 9-month-old child who died after being left in a hot car won't be charged, according to reports from multiple news sources. 

Jayden Davis died on June 19 after his father left him in the car for three to four hours in the parking lot of their apartment complex, Charbonneau Apartments off Greystone Boulevard.

The father dropped the child's mother off at work, but forgot to take Davis back inside, investigators said.

Every year, an average of 38 children die of hyperthermia after being left in a hot car, according to a study by San Francisco State University. In 2011, 22 children have died. 

More than half of the deaths since 1998 were children under the age of two. 

After just one hour, the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rise to 43 degrees hotter than the outside temperature, according to the study.
