Here are the top stories in Columbia today:

  1. A gang member from Columbia pleaded guilty to two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Officials say 27-year-old Dashawn Terrell Swygert plead guilty in federal court, and he now awaits sentencing. In early 2020, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives way they conducted an undercover investigation into firearms in the Columbia area, and they were introduced to Swygert.   2. The American Red Cross is helping a Columbia family whose home caught fire. The home, located on Arcadia Road in Columbia, was severely damaged by fire Wednesday evening. The Red Cross is helping the family of three with financial assistance for food, clothing, and a place to stay. (WACH.com)
  3. The South Carolina Supreme Court rules on the ban on mask mandates in schools is constitutional. (WIS10)
  4. More than 260 new luxury apartments along with retail space are planned for BullStreet in Columbia. (The State)
  5. A Columbia High School student is recovering after authorities say the teen was assaulted while at school. (Abccolumbia.com)
