The Palmetto Center for
the Arts will present the musical HAIRSPRAY
Thursday through Sunday, March 20-23, 2014 in the Richland District Two
Auditorium. Curtain time is 7:30 pm for
all performances except the 3:00 pm Sunday matinee. Tickets are $5 for students
and $7 for adults and may be purchased at the door.
Winner
of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, HAIRSPRAY is a family-friendly show
piled bouffant high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful
songs. Set in 1962 Baltimore, the musical tells the story of Tracy
Turnblad, a plump, courageous and high-spirited teen who risks her dream of
dancing on the Corny Collins Show to lead a campaign to integrate the show.

Taking
on the role of Tracy, is senior theatre student, Hannah Barton. Others in the cast include Amanda George, as Penny,
Tracy’s best friend; Emily Nielsen as Tracy’s nemesis, Amber Von Tussle, Itai
Almor as Link, the handsome teen heart throb, and Paxton Haven as Corny
Collins. Also featured are Cory Scott
and Jerrica Jenkins in the roles of Tracy’s new friends, Seaweed and Little
Inez, while Rayana Briggs and Nicole Seibles are double cast as record shop
owner, Motormouth Mable. Cole Morgan as Edna and Alex Lopez as Wilbur portray
Tracy’s supportive parents. Adding to the talented cast are Richland Northeast
teachers JoAnna Chriswell, Lyn Olive and Roger Mize in the roles of Velma Von
Tussle, Prudy Pingleton and Harriman F. Spritzer respectively. The musical is directed
by Donna Wilson with music directed by Dr. Greg Boatwrght and choreography by
Nicole Hardenbergh.

"special dinner and show event" sponsored by The Richland Northeast
Education Foundation. Special tickets for the "dinner and show" event
