'House That DJJ Built' Lifted Over Fence

Now that the house is at a permanent location, youth will finish the Habitat for Humanity home for a family in need.

A house built by incarcerated youth at the Department of Juvenile Justice was lifted over the barbed-wire fence at the Broad River Road facility Monday.

The Habitat for Humanity home, part of a project called the was moved to its permanent location. DJJ youth under the supervision of staff will help put the finishing touches on the home before the family moves in.

The house will go to Ms. Jackson and her 17-year-old son Baryn, who currently live in a subsidized two-bedroom apartment with plumbing and structural problems.

Youth and community volunteers started construction on the house in early December.
