Lexington County Extends Bus Service

The CMRTA board will meet Monday to hear proposals on how to solve the organization's budget deficit.

Lexington County Council joined Richland County and Columbia in temporarily extending bus service while leaders discuss how to solve the system's financial problems.

Lexington County Council voted 7-2 on Tuesday to pay $8,4000 a month to the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (CMRTA) through November to keep buses rolling, according to a report on thestate.com.

An intergovernmental agreement between the city, Richland County and Lexington County on how to operate the CMRTA ended June 30. Since then, the three governments have not formed another one.

A CMRTA committee has been working on solutions to offeset the organization's $3 million deficit, according to a report on wistv.com. Those proposals will go before the full CMRTA board at its meeting on Monday.
