Johnson was off to a good start, hitting a 2-under 68 Saturday. He entered Sunday just one stroke behind eventual winner Clarke.

But Johnson's chances of winning ended Sunday when his second shot to the par-4 15th went out of bounds. Despite the respectable finish, Johnson found himself in position to win a major, but blew it -- again -- just as he had in the 2010 U.S. Open, not to mention last year's PGA Championship, when he grounded his club in the bunker on the 72nd hole and cost himself a spot in the playoff, ESPN analyst Gene Wojciechowski lamented.
