Local Shooting Under Investigation

A 19-year-old man was taken to the hospital after he was shot at Wednesday evening, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department. 

Deputies responded to a shots fired call just before 7 p.m., but when they arrived, they couldn't locate the victim. 

Lexington County Sheriff's deputies called to inform Richland County deputies that they had located the victim on I-26 near the Augusta Road exit. His friends were taking him to the hospital but took a wrong turn and decided to call for help, deputies said. 

The victim, who was shot in his midsection, was transported to Palmetto Health Richland. His condition is unknown.
