Here are the top stories in Columbia today:

1. A man escaped from the back of an ambulance yesterday afternoon in Columbia. The Lexington County Sheriff's Office said Daniel Hill III was in custody before escaping from the back of an ambulance and stealing a 2005 Ford 350 pickup truck. The truck is burgundy with a tan stripe on the bottom and was last seen near the intersection of I-20 and Augusta Road. According to the sheriff's office, Hill is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, call 911. (WJBF-TV)
2. Country music star and American Idol winner Laine Hardy will be in Columbia today to support Little Kids Rock, a national nonprofit that champions music education in K-12 schools across 48 states. While he is in town, Hardy will perform a free concert from 8-9 p.m. at Wild Wings Cafe, 729 Lady St., after visiting Heyward Gibbes Middle School and the University of South Carolina. (WLTX.com)
3. Officials have confirmed 100-year-old trees in the Bull Street District will be coming down.
   According to officials, the trees have reached their maturity and are no longer safe. The City of Columbia representative says the developers know the importance of what is called a "tree canopy" and says the trees will be replaced with large caliper trees. (WIS10)
