The Learning Center at Provost Academy South Carolina in Columbia is holding an open house on Tuesday, January 21 from noon to 4 pm at 200 Arbor Lake Drive in Columbia, 29223. This event is free and open to the public. High school-eligible students and their parents/guardians are invited to attend, meet staff, and learn more about the new high school's flexible and hands-on learning environment.
The Learning Center is a tuition-free public charter high school that fuses both virtual and traditional high school settings. The center can accommodate about 100 students daily, providing enrolled students with additional hands-on academic assistance in their studies. Students attend the center for four hours in the morning or afternoon, Monday through Friday. Each student receives one-on-one instruction in language arts and math, and has the opportunity to complete all his or her course work on-site in a computer lab with the assistance of instructors. Students also have the option to work ahead at their convenience from their home computer or anywhere there is Internet. The center also provides guidance counseling and career training through an on-site advisor. "Students who enjoy the flexibility of learning in a virtual setting but need more hands-on assistance with certain subjects now have a solution that will help them succeed academically," said Executive Director of Provost Academy South Carolina Stephanie Cagle. "Students get the personal attention that you would find in a brick and mortar setting but they also retain the flexibility of a virtual school program. It's truly the best of both worlds."
"Not everyone flourishes in a completely virtual environment or in a traditional brick and mortar setting. This blends the two together in a unique and innovative way," added Cagle. "We want to invite interested students and families to join us during our open house event to get a first-hand account of The Learning Center and meet our incredible staff."
