Here are the top stories today in Columbia:
- A Richland County Councilman who once brought numerous locations of a national pizza chain to the Midlands is now set to launch more than two dozen coffee chain spots in the Columbia area. Councilman Joe Walker III and business partner Andrew Reed have inked a deal to bring 25 Scooter's Coffee locations to South Carolina. Scooter's was founded in 1998 and is based in Nebraska. (The State)
- Daniel Hill III, the man who escaped from the back of an ambulance on Wednesday afternoon in Columbia is back in custody. On Wednesday evening, the sheriff's office said SWAT confirmed that Hill III was inside of a home on Lawrence Road still in handcuffs. Shortly after talking to Hill III through the window, SWAT entered the house and took him into custody without incident, the sheriff's office said. (News 13)
- The South Carolina Department of Transportation has announced bridge closures on Interstate 126 in Columbia for routine bridge inspections. (WACH.com)
