Percentage of Students Who Passed State Testing Increases

Students in Richland One scored higher this year in all five subject areas of the PASS test.

The percentage of students in Richland One who passed the Palmetto Asessment of State Standards (PASS) test increased in all five subject areas, according to results released by the State Department of Education Friday. 

Students in grades 3 through 8 were tested in English, math, science and social studies. Students in fifth grade and eighth grade were also tested in writing. 

Scores are broken down into three categories: not met, met and exemplary. The percentage of students who pass includes students who scored met and exemplary.

H.B. Rhame Elementary School was one of the 11 schools in Richland One with an increased percentage of students who passed in all five subject areas. 

The biggest improvement for H.B. Rhame was in science, with 68.1 percent of student in grades 3 through 5 passing last year and 73.9 percent passing this year. The second-biggest improvement was in English/ Language Arts.

At the middle school level, writing scores decreased for St. Andrews Middle School eighth-graders. This year, 53.1 percent of eighth graders passed the writing portion, compared to 57.8 percent last year. 

However, English/Language Arts scores for students in grades 6 through 8 increased at St. Andrews Middle School.
