Residents met with state Senate District 20 candidate Sunday afternoon for a barbecue at . 

Rikard, who is one of two Democratic candidates for the seat, will face Richland County Councilman Norman Jackson in the June 12 primary. The winner will compete with Republican incumbent John Courson in the general election. 

District 20 covers parts of downtown Columbia, Irmo and St. Andrews.

The race between Rikard and Jackson is the only contested one on the primary ballot for St. Andrews voters.
