Here are the top stories today in Columbia:
- Palmetto Wastewater Reclamation, Inc. (PWR), the company that supplies sewer service to customers in Richland and Lexington counties, will go before the South Carolina Public Service Commission on Nov. 8 and 9 to ask for a flat rate increase of 13.7% for all customers. PWR originally filed for the rate increase in July 2021. If approved, the average residential customer's monthly bill would increase by $5.20. (WLTX.com)
- The Richland County Coroner, Naida Rutherford, has released the name of the individual who died after being hit by three cars on Broad River Road, near Marley Drive. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning just before 3 a.m. The victim has been identified as Elliott Farmer Jr., 44, of Columbia. (ColaDaily.com)
- The USC Columbia Technology Incubator announced it received a $200,000 grant from Truist Financial Corporation through the Truist Charitable Fund, which is a donor-advised fund at The Winston-Salem Foundation. (Upstate Business Journal)
- The Nickelodeon Theatre on Columbia's Main Street will be hosting the seventh annual SC Underground Film Festival from Friday, Nov. 5 to Sunday, Nov. 7, starting at 11 a.m. and running into the afternoon each evening. (ColaDaily.com)
- The former head of Richland County's Recreation Commission was acquitted Nov. 4 of allegations he coerced a female employee into having sex. (Charleston Post Courier)
