Here are the top stories today in Columbia:
- Columbia restaurant week is serving up delicious menus through October 24. "Restaurant Week South Carolina" is a 10-day celebration at several participating restaurants. Columbia's restaurant week will last through October 24 and features an array of cuisines. Diners will be able to sample menus and special dishes from restaurants they haven't tried before. (WIS10)
- The Columbia Police Department says officers are assisting at the scene of a plane crash at Owens Field Airport. Officers say they were called to the crash around 11:30 a.m. Authorities say the only passenger was the pilot who has been taken to the hospital. (Abccolumbia.com)
- A Columbia man was arrested and charged for smuggling weed from a California airport to Columbia. Kevin Antwan Simmons, 43, is charged with trafficking marijuana after officials found more than 40 pounds of weed and $4,000 in his suitcase at Columbia Metropolitan Airport, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department. - The former director of the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) has taken a new job with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). Freddie Pough is expected to return to SLED as a Senior Special Agent assigned to Investigative Services on Nov. 2. (WLTX.com)
- The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control released the state's latest coronavirus data as of Tuesday. DHEC reports 560 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 319 probable cases, for a total of 879 new deaths in South Carolina. (Abccolumbia.com)
