🌱 Richland NE Teen Charged With Gun At School + City Council Mtg

Here are the top stories today in Columbia:

  1. A Richland Northeast High School student is charged with bringing a loaded gun to school. The 17-year-old male student is charged with possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a pistol under 18, possession of a stolen firearm, and unlawful carry of a handgun. There's no evidence that any other students were presented or threatened with the gun before it was confiscated. (News 19)
  2. Yesterday, the Columbia City Council held a public hearing on redistricting. According to city officials, they held the hearing to get input from the public regarding changes to the City Council districts to reflect the population and demographic information compiled and released as part of the 2020 Decennial Census. (ABC Columbia)
  3. Christmas gifts are going out to inmates across South Carolina, all thanks to the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Around 2,100 churches made their way to Columbia to drop off gifts at Shandon Baptist Church. Normally church volunteers would take the gifts to the institutions but due to COVID protocols at the facilities chaplains will deliver the gifts to inmates today. (ABC Columbia)
