Richland One to Honor School Volunteers

Volunteers gave more than 186,000 hours during the 2010-2011 school year.

Richland One will honor its outstanding volunteers at a ceremony Tuesday at Hand Middle School.

The district's 3,500 volunteers donated more than 186,000 hours during the 2010-2011 school year. Their work is valued at more than $3.8 million, according to the district. 

Volunteers will be recognized in eight categories, including 2011 Middle School Volunteer with the Most Hours. That award goes to Alice Millender-Murphy for her work at St. Andrews Middle School.

The ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hand Middle School, 2600 Wheat St.

  • Virginia Ariail - Volunteer of the Year, Brennen Elementary
  • St. John's Episcopal Church - Volunteer Group of the Year, Hand Middle School
  • Mid-town Fellowship Church - Partner of the Year, Hyatt Park Elementary
  • Connie Derrick - Stevenson Award of Excellence, Satchel Ford Elementary
  • Yvonne Hall - Volunteer Administrator of the Year, Webber Elementary School
  • Blanche Gandy - Elementary School Volunteer with the Most Hours, Caughman Road Elementary School
  • Cheryl Harris, High School Volunteer with the Most Hours, Lower Richland High School
