Riverbanks Zoo Names First Chief Operating Officer

Riverbanks' former director of marketing named to the new position.

Riverbanks Zoo named its first chief operating officer in its 37-year history. 

Tommy Stringfellow was recently named to the position after serving the last nine years as Riverbanks’ director of marketing.

Stringfellow will continue to oversee marketing and will also manage guest services, human resources, facilities and IT.

Executive Director Satch Krantz said the zoo is "fortunate to have [Stringfellow] now serve in this capacity." 

“Tommy is especially skilled in marketing and guest relations, and evidence of his expertise can be seen throughout the Zoo and Garden,” Krantz said.

Stringfellow has 34 years of experience in the attractions industry, including directing the sales and marketing efforts at various theme parks such as Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags Whitewater Park and American Adventures Family Entertainment Center and Six Flags Great Escape and Water Park in upstate New York. 

He is also an active member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums and the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing from Winthrop University.
